Centre apologises for illegal dumping

The New Beginnings Foundation Care Centre vehicle involved in illegal dumping of goods.

A concerned Northvilla resident reported the dumping to the City Times with photographic evidence, after he said the driver of the vehicle claimed dumping was allowed in the area.

On March 5 Chad Bertasso and his friend Calvin Holzapfel were near the Chimes Tavern when they came across a vehicle belonging to the New Beginnings Foundation Care Centre.

When Bertasso and Holzapfel confronted the driver around 10am, they were told that the dumping was allowed.

“There was an extensive amount of rubbish being offloaded from the vehicle,” Bertasso said.

“It smelt horrible.”

Bertasso took photographs of the illegal dumping which was then sent to the foundation through the City Times.

Stephen du Plessis, who is the chairperson of New Beginnings Foundation Care Centre, said he had no knowledge of this and was horrified by the photographs.

“I’m so sorry this has happened,” du Plessis said.

“It was not instructed to them to do this, they were supposed to dump at the municipal dump as the municipality did not come to empty our skip as their truck keeps on breaking down.”

According to du Plessis, the driver and helpers were disciplined.

“Please extend our apology to the people and community affected,” du Plessis said.

“I assure you this won’t happen again.”
