The EMPD Equestrian Unit arrested two men for being in possession of a hijacked vehicle and an unlicensed firearm.

The male suspects, aged 24 and 45, were arrested during a routine patrol at the corner of Birch and Gum roads, on March 11.

EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago said police were doing a routine patrol when they noticed a Ford Ranger which displayed tampered number plates.

UPDATE: EMPD yet to return ‘stolen’ cars

“Police stopped and searched the vehicle,” said Kgasago.

“Upon further investigation, it was found that the vehicle was stolen in Jeppestown, Johannesburg in February.”

Police confiscated several number plates and a Norinco .45 caliber pistol.

The duo was arrested and detained at the Crystal Park Police Station.

They were expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on March 12.
