Wood fair welcomes you

Georg Stroebel, East Rand Woodworkers’ Association founder.

If you love wood, be sure not to miss the Working with Wood Fair, which is coming to Benoni in September.

Working with Wood, in association with the East Rand Woodworkers’ Association (Erwa), will stage its 14th annual fair on Saturday, September 8.

The fair takes place at the Northfield Methodist Church Hall, on the corner of Aerodrome Drive and Hurricane Street, in Airfield.

The objective of the association is to draw together the woodworkers of all disciplines to promote the craft of woodworking, share knowledge and encourage skills development in the craft.

This event will host well-known suppliers of all woodworking equipment and will demonstrate the latest unique, innovative, technically advanced tools and accessories available today.

The main exhibition hall will feature wooden furniture, clocks, toys, carvings, musical instruments, ornaments and other items made by Erwa members.

Vermont sales manager Greg de Villiers said the Working with Wood show will feature top international brands from all over the world.

“The show-stopping Saw Stop is always one of the highlights of the show; this revolutionary new saw is something else,” said de Villiers.

In addition to the display of crafted items, Erwa members will give hands-on demonstrations of techniques such as carving, scroll sawing, CNC cutting, turning and routing.

You might find woodworking to be your next hobby to keep you occupied during your retirement years, an activity that you can share with your children, or a cheaper alternative to do some home renovations.

A range of items will be on sale from the Erwa members, making this a good opportunity to do some Christmas shopping.

The exhibition will be held from 9am to 2pm. Entrance will be on Hurricane Avenue.

Entrance is free and there will be parking available.

Erwa was founded by Georg Stroebel and its chairman is Charles Mcleod.

The association has about 43 members and any woodworkers are welcome to join at a fee payable annually.

Members meet every third Wednesday of each month (except December) at Northfield Methodist Church.
